What Reagan called the Nicaraguan "virus", is for Bush a political fight. LANGUAGE: SPA ABSTRACT: Before the elections to be held in 1990 the Nicaraguan people seem to be confused for the many parties acting in the campaigns. "Before there were only two parties, the liberals and the conservatives, and one knew which one to vote", like one taxi-driver comments. The article explains the factors, which maintained the two-party system for such a long time in the political life, including the US military presence controlling the Nicaraguan elections during almost a hundred years before the Sandinista revolution. The socialist movement was repressed during the years of the Somoza-family, supported by the US till the presidency of Carter. The Sandinista revolution faced the Reagan's military proyct and the country maintained in political polarization. Yet through the Esquipulas peace process and the more liberal political situation have created 21 political parties willing to participate in the elections. INDEX WORDS:
